Our History of Success
(1894 — present)
Our organization has provided compassionate care and community-based
services for over 115 years, improving the quality of life for thousands
of people.
Although no single factor has been responsible for our growth
and success, the powerful strength of our faith, Catholic heritage,
committed associates and our continued desire to provide the finest
in senior
living, have been catalysts.
History
Our history dates back to 1894 when Josephine Dudzik, a Polish immigrant,
established a religious congregation of women known as Franciscan
Sisters of Chicago. Dudzik — later known as Mother Mary Theresa
— came to Chicago and was moved to action by the great need
she saw among the city's aged, infirm and poor. The Franciscan Sisters
of Chicago founded St. Joseph Home of Chicago in 1898, the first Catholic
nursing home in Chicago.
Today, the Franciscan Sisters of Chicago Service Corporation (FSCSC)
continues Mother Mary Theresa's mission. Established in 1988 in
order to serve and support the Franciscan Sisters of Chicago ministries,
FSCSC creates, manages and perpetuates high-quality senior care
services, a home health agency, an adult day care center, child
care center, a foundation for educating young women and a family violence
prevention center
and shelter.

company like Franciscan Sisters of Chicago Service Corporation does not distribute
any revenue that we make to our owners as profit. Instead, everything we earn
from the fees charged for care and services goes directly into the communities,
programs, amenities and services provided by Franciscan Communities to enhance
your life.
